Luis Leon had one of the most notable hits in Spanish baseball history. Leon played for Spain when they won Bronze at the 1989 European Championship and 1991 European Championship. He played in six of their eight games in the 1992 Olympics, one at DH and five as a pinch-hitter, going 2 for 8. His big hit came in Spain's only win in the Olympics, 7-6 over Puerto Rico. Down 6-4 in the bottom of the 9th, he pinch-hit for Javier Diez and singled in two runs to tie it before Miguel Pariente drove in the winner.
He was Spain's main DH and backup 1B in the 1993 Intercontinental Cup but was just 2 for 20 with a walk and a double. He was a pinch-hitter only in the 1993 European Championship, going 0 for 3 and getting hit by a Klaus Knüttel pitch.
