Luis Barreiro pitched for the Cuban national team.
In the Cuban All-Star Series during the 1972-1973 Serie Nacional, he posted a league-leading 0.00 ERA for the Industriales. He was 3-0 with a 0.00 ERA and 31 K in the 1973 FIBA Amateur World Series to help Cuba to the title; he led in strikeouts, wins (tied Evelio Ovalles and Julio Romero) and ERA. [1] He was nearly as dominant when they won the 1974 Central American and Caribbean Games, going 2-0 (twice beating El Salvador) with a 0.00 ERA and 16 K in 20 IP; he was second in ERA (teammate Juan Pérez was at 0 in 22 1/3 IP), tied for 3rd in wins and 3rd in strikeouts (after Silvio Martínez and Pérez). [2] He went 23-11 with 3 saves, 3 shutouts, a 1.84 ERA and .201 opponent average in 79 games over 6 seasons in Cuba. [3]
