Biographical Information

Infielder Lincoln Gumbs was a 27th-round pick of the Houston Astros in the 1990 draft, one round after they took Jim Dougherty and 3 rounds before Chris Singleton. He played just 15 games in the short-season NY-Penn League that summer. He was 6 for 33 with 5 walks and 11 strikeouts, while stealing one base in three tries for the Auburn Astros. He fielded only .810 in a utility role. He never played again in Organized Baseball. Yet Gumbs obviously loved the game. Seven years later, in 1997, he appeared in 32 games in the independent Texas-Louisiana League, hitting .250. Then, half a decade further on, he resurfaced with another indie circuit, the Southeastern League, batting .226 for the Ozark Patriots and tossing one shutout inning.

He managed the Lancaster Sound Breakers of the Pecos League in their only year of existence, 2023.
