Biographical Information[edit]

Kuniyasu Mine pitched in Nippon Pro Baseball for 9 years.

Mine signed with the Taiyo Whales in 1959, and he only pitched 3 games in his first season. He recorded a 3.86 ERA in 27 appearances in 1960, and he went 1-3 with a 3.36 ERA in 1961. Mine stayed in the minors in the entire 1962 season, and he had a 4.97 ERA in 18 appearances in 1963. He pitched a career-high 45 games with a 5-2 record and a 3.51 ERA in 1964, and his ERA was 2.70 in 21 relief outings in 1965. Mine slumped to a 5.09 ERA in 12 appearances in 1966, and he recorded a 3.62 ERA in 23 games in 1967. He only pitched 10 games with a 5.79 ERA in 1968, and he announced his retirement. Mine was a batting practice pitcher for the Yomiuri Giants from 1970 to 1974, and he was known as the exclusive batting practice pitcher for superstar Sadaharu Oh. Mine also became the pitching coach for the Whales in 1976 and for their minors team in 1975.

Overall, Mine went 7-9 with a 3.91 ERA, struck out 178 and pitched 356 1/3 innings in 9 seasons in NPB.
