Biographical Information[edit]
Kunio Kobayashi played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 7 years.
Kobayashi was drafted by the Yakult Atoms in the 12th round of the 1971 NPB draft, and he went 2-3 with a 2.90 ERA in 1973. He was 2-3 with a 4.75 ERA in 1974, and he recorded a 5.31 ERA in 31 appearances in 1975. Kobayashi's ERA was 3.18 in 30 games in 1976, but he slumped to a 8.18 ERA in 16 appearances in 1977. He bounced back in 1978 with a 4.06 ERA in 46 relief outings, and he completed 2 shutout innings in 3 appearances in the 1978 Nippon Series. Yakult beat the Hankyu Braves in 7 games. Kobayashi's ERA was 4.50 in 13 games in 1979, and he never pitched another game for the top team before he announced his retirement in 1981. He later coached in Yakult's system from 1995 to 2001.
Overall, Kobayashi was 5-11 with a 4.25 ERA, struck out 135 and pitched 275 innings in 7 seasons in NPB.
