Biographical Information[edit]

Kosho Sakomaru was drafted by the Yomiuri Giants in the 4th round of the 1973 NPB draft, and he was the highest drafted player the Giants got that season because their first three picks refused to sign due to the Yuguchi Scandal. He stayed in the NPB Farm Leagues in his first four seasons, and he was 1-for-8 in 1978. Sakomaru won the batting title of the Eastern League in 1979, and he was 0-for-4 in 14 games for the top team. He then led the minors in steals in 1980, but he didn't reach the big club and he was traded to the Hiroshima Carp for cash. Sakomaru was 2-for-11 in 1983, and he announced his retirement. He later coached in the Carp system from 1984 to 2002.
