Biographical Information

Koji Torihara was drafted by the Yakult Swallows in the 5th round of the 1977 NPB draft, and he mainly stayed in the NPB Farm Leagues in his first season; he only pitched 3 games for the big club. Torihara had a 4.50 ERA in 6 games in 1979, and he pitched 10 games with a 2.57 ERA in 1980. He allowed 8 runs in 6 1/3 innings in 1981, and he soon bounced back and got 3 saves with a 3.15 ERA in 21 relief outings in 1982. Torihara's ERA was 5.73 in 9 games in 1983, and he recorded a 4.50 ERA in 17 appearances in 1984. He then pitched 11 games with a 3.22 ERA in 1985, but he only got one appearance in 1986 and he announced his retirement. He later scouted for the Swallows.

Overall, Torihara was 2-4 with a 4.11 ERA, struck out 553 and pitched 142 1/3 innings in 9 seasons in NPB.
