Biographical Information[edit]
Koji Kagitani played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 7 years.
Kagitani was drafted by the Nippon Ham Fighters in the 4th round of the 1975 NPB draft, and he played 50 games with a .229/.282/.239 batting line in his first season. He only played 5 games in 1977, then he went 11-for-42 in 1978. Kagitani returned in 1979, and he shared the starting second baseman spot with Mitsuo Sugano and Satoru Yoshioka. He played 90 games with a .259/.371/.313 batting line in '79, then he hit .229/.271/.257 in 1980. Kagitani recorded a.260/.319/.317 batting line in 69 games in 1981, and he was 3-for-8 in the 1981 Nippon Series with a game-winning RBI single against Shoji Sadaoka in Game 3; the Fighters lost to the Yomiuri Giants in 6 games. Kagitani had a .271/.377/.339 batting line in 1982, and he announced his retirement.
Overall, Kagitani hit .248/.315/.287 with 133 hits in 7 seasons in NPB.
