Biographical Information[edit]
Koji Hiroike pitched in Nippon Pro Baseball for 11 years.
Hiroike was drafted by the Hiroshima Carp in the 8th round of the 1998 NPB draft, and he pitched 17 games with a 5.73 ERA in his first season. He struggled again as his ERA was 8.35 in 26 appearances in 2000, then he allowed 3 runs in 2 1/3 innings in 2001. Hiroike then recorded a 4.57 ERA in 42 relief outings in 2002, and he only got 5 appearances in 2003. He then went 2-2 with a 2.57 ERA in 2004, but his ERA rose to 8.06 in 41 games in 2005. Hiroike improved to a 3.20 ERA with 9 holds in 47 games in 2006, then he went 2-2 with 7 holds and a 6.26 ERA in 2007. He had a 5.11 ERA in 10 games in 2008, and he announced his retirement after he surrendered 3 runs in an inning in 2010.
Overall, Hiroike was 9-12 with a 5.47 ERA and 25 holds, struck out 181 and pitched 268 innings in 11 seasons in NPB.
