Biographical Information[edit]

Koichiro Numazawa played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 7 years.

Numazawa signed with the Mainichi Orions in 1953, and he went 14-for-61 in his first season as the backup catcher behind Takeshi Doigaki. Doigaki left the team after that season, but the Orions signed Charlie Luis so Numazawa was still a backup catcher. He only played 43 games with a .288/.393/.365 batting line in 1954, and he recorded a .204/.291/.245 batting line in 69 games in 1955. Numazawa shared the starting catcher spot with Akitada Tsukuda and Akiyuki Ukai in 1956, and he played a career-high 90 games with a .178/.236/.208 batting line. He then lost his spot after Takeo Daigo shined in 1957, and he hit .227/.320/.303 in 46 games. Numazawa was 8-for-34 in 1958, but he only got 5 at-bats in 1959 and he announced his retirement. He later became the batting coach for the Nankai Hawks from 1970 to 1973 and for the Yakult Swallows from 1974 to 1975. He was also a broadcaster for TBS from 1964 to 1969.

Overall, Numazawa hit .209/.283/.255 with 107 hits and 4 homers in 7 seasons in NPB.
