Biographical Information[edit]

Koichi Takada pitched in Nippon Pro Baseball for 4 years.

Takada represented Japan in the 2018 World University Baseball Championship, going 1-0 with a 1.12 ERA and beating the USA's Steve Washilewski. Japan won the title; Takada was 6th in the event in ERA (between Hiromu Ise and Sheng-Hung Su). He was drafted by the Rakuten Golden Eagles in the 2nd round the 2020 NPB draft; the scout was Toshiyuki Hesaka. He was 6-10 with a 3.21 ERA in the NPB Farm Leagues in 2021, and he led the Eastern League with 95 strikeouts and in losses. He debuted in the Pacific League against the Softbank Hawks on June 26, but he plunked Yusuke Masago and he was ejected. Takada was the 2nd rookie to be ejected due to hit-by-pitch in his debut in NPB history. He had a 1.35 ERA in 3 games for the big club that year. Takada native was 11-2 with a 2.25 ERA in the minors in 2022, and he led the league in wins, ERA and winning percentage. However, he struggled with the big club as he allowed 5 runs in 6 1/3 innings. Takada had a 1.86 ERA in 7 games in 2023, then his ERA was 6.97 in 5 appearances in 2024. Takada announced his retirement after that season.
