Biographical Information[edit]

Koichi Ota played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 6 years.

Ota signed with the Osaka Tigers in 1960, and he had a 2.40 ERA in 9 games in 1961. He recorded a 2.18 ERA in 23 appearances in 1962, and he completed 1/3 of a shutout inning in the 1962 Nippon Series Game 2. He allowed a 2-run homer to Isao Harimoto in Game 6, and the Tigers lost to the Toei Flyers in 7 games. He had a 3.32 ERA in 31 games in 1963, and his ERA was 3.00 in 29 games in 1964. Ota pitched 13 games with a 0.90 ERA in 1965, but he allowed 9 runs in 7 innings in 1966. He stayed in the minors in the entire 1967 season, and the Flyers released him. The Hankyu Braves signed him, but Ota failed to return to the top team in 1968 and he retired.

Overall, Ota was 3-7 with a 2.98 ERA, struck out 66 and pitched 157 innings in 6 seasons in NPB.
