Biographical Information[edit]

Kentaro Taira has pitched in Nippon Pro Baseball.

Taira was drafted by the Yomiuri Giants in the 5th round of the 2013 NPB draft; the scout was Yasushi Takeda. He stayed in the NPB Farm Leagues primarily in his first three seasons, and he only got one appearance in 2016. He had a 3.60 ERA in 5 games for the Gigantes de Carolina after that season, and the Yokohama BayStars selected him as the compensation for losing free agent Shun Yamaguchi. Taira started 4 games with a 7.07 ERA in 2017, and he improved to 5-3 with a 3.49 ERA in 2018. He then had a 5-6 record with a 4.11 ERA in in 2019, and he went 4-6 with a 2.27 ERA in 202. However, Taira only pitched 2 games in 2021, then he underwent Tommy John surgery and missed the next year. He returned in 2023 with a 3.49 ERA in 11 starts with a 3.49 ERA, but he missed most of the 2024 season due to right shoulder injury.
