Kazuteru Shimada played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 9 years.
Shimada was drafted by the Nippon Ham Fighters in the 4th round of the 1994 NPB draft, and he spent his first five seasons primarily in the NPB Farm Leagues; he only got 27 at-bats combined for the top team. Shimada crushed 6 homers with a .265/.306/.388 batting line as the starting right fielder in 2000, and he slumped to .217/.247/.307 in 2001. He only played 18 games with a 9-for-44 record in 2002, and he came back with a career-high 11 homers and a .265/.291/.450 batting line in 2003. Shimada hit .272/.346/.427 in 88 games in 2004, but he suffered from right foot injury in 2005 so he only played 28 games with a .207/.258/.259 batting line. He announced his retirement after that season, and he was the minor league batting coach for the Fighters from 2006 to 2007.
Overall, Shimada hit .250/.299/.381 with 252 hits and 26 homers in 9 seasons in NPB.
