Kazuaki Kawamura played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 6 years
Kawamura was drafted by the Hankyu Braves in the first round of the 1980 NPB draft, but he refused to sign. He then went to play for Prince Hotels in the industrial leagues. The Seibu Lions then picked him in the third round of the 1983 NPB draft, and he had a 4.26 ERA in 12 appearances in his first season. He also went 5-11 with a 3.54 ERA for the San Jose Bees that year. He tied Doug McKenzie for 5th in strikeouts (144), tied Greg Cadaret and others for 10th in complete games (6) and tied for 10th in losses. Debuting in the Pacific League the next summer, Kawamura was 3-1 with a 5.28 ERA in 1985, but he only pitched 4 more games combined in the next four seasons for the big club. The Lions then traded him to the Yakult Swallows for cash, and Kawamura had a 5.05 ERA in 30 games in 1990. He allowed 2 runs in 2 1/3 innings in 1991, and he announced his retirement.
Overall, Kawamura was 7-5 with a 5.09 ERA, struck out 86 and pitched 115 innings in 6 seasons in NPB.
