Biographical Information[edit]
Katsuhiro Jono pitched in Nippon Pro Baseball for 7 years.
Jono signed with the Hiroshima Carp in 1963, and he had a 2.25 ERA in 4 games in his first season. He was 0-2 with a 5.14 ERA in 1964, and he went 0-2 again with a 3.13 ERA in 1965. Jono also led the Western League in wins that season, and he completed a no-hitter on August 19. His ERA was 5.73 in 12 relief outings in 1966, and he had a 3-5 record with a 2.05 ERA in 1967. Jono also led the minors in wins again in '67, and he slumped to 1-3 with a 5.14 ERA in 1968. He completed his second minor league no-hitter on September 24, and he was the first pitcher to threw multiple no-hitters in the NPB Farm Leagues; only Ryujiro Matsutani also has done it as of 2025. Jono only pitched one game in 1969, then the Carp traded him with Takashi Teraoka and Takeshi Koba to the Nankai Hawks for Yasuhiro Kunisada. Jono didn't reach the big club in 1970, and he announced his retirement.
Overall, Jono was 4-12 with a 3.76 ERA, struck out 75 and pitched 194 innings in 7 seasons in NPB.
