Biographical Information[edit]

Kate Psota was a mainstay of the Canadian women's national team for many years, with her first appearance for the Maple Leaf coming in 2004.

She played both hockey and baseball during her youth, cracking the roster of an all-boys baseball team at age nine and then being chosen for the provincial elite baseball program in 1999. She was Ontario's Junior Player of the Year in 2002, the first woman to receive the award. When she joined the national team two years later, it was as part of its inaugural edition, as it was being constituted for the first time. She was the team's first baseman and always was one of its best hitters. She was named the team's MVP in both 2009 and 2010. Because there were no opportunities to play baseball at the university level at the time, she went to Wilfrid Laurier University to play hockey from 2006-2010. She obtained a bachelor's degree in geography and kinesiology, as well as a degree in education.

She took part in all major competitions in which Canada competed during her tenure with team, including being part of silver-medal winning teams at both the 2008 Women's Baseball World Cup and 2016 Women's Baseball World Cup; she also won bronze in 2012 and 2018. She was named to the tournament All-Star team four times, in 2010, 2012, 2016 and 2018. She was also a member of the team that won a silver medal at the 2015 Pan American Games. She and Ashley Stephenson were the only players to take part in every World Cup for Canada during that period.

She retired as a player in 2021 and became a coach with the women's national team, which won another bronze medal at the 2024 Women's Baseball World Cup.

She was elected to the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame in 2026.
