Biographical Information[edit]

Kaisei Sone played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 7 years.

Sone was drafted by the Softbank Hawks in the 3rd round of the development phase in the 2013 NPB draft, and he spent his first four seasons in the NPB Farm Leagues; he only played 2 games for the big club in 2017. The Hawks then traded him to the Hiroshima Carp for Yuki Mima, and he was 5-for-18 in 2018. Sone appeared in 3 games in the 2018 Nippon Series, and the Carp lost to the Softbank Hawks in 6 games. He was mainly used as defensive replacement and pinch-runner in the rest of his career, and he went 5-for-25 in 64 games in 2019. He was 4-for-13 in 2020, and he only got 11 at-bats combined in the next two seasons with 19 runs scored despite playing 110 games. Sone was 2-for-14 in 2023, and he announced his retirement in 2024.

Overall, Sone hit .184/.268/.230 with 16 hits in 7 seasons in NPB. He only totaled 101 plate appearances in his 259 games, playing mainly in the outfield but also seeing 60 games at 3B and 34 at 2B.
