Biographical Information

Junya Sakai was drafted by the Yomiuri Giants in the 5th round of the 1998 NPB draft, and he stayed in the minors in his first two seasons. He pitched 4 games with a 4.50 ERA in 2001, and he went 1-2 with a 4.24 ERA in 2002. Sakai then allowed 9 runs in 6 1/3 innings in 2003, and his ERA was 11.08 in 9 games in 2005. He had a 2.84 ERA in 7 games in 2006, and he announced his retirement in 2007.
