Biographical Information[edit]
Josh Hendrickson spent parts of two seasons in AAA but did not make it to The Show.
He had a 11.12 ERA for Australia in the 2015 U-18 Baseball World Cup. [1] In the 2016 U-23 Baseball World Cup, he went 1-1 with a 6.48 ERA, losing to Japan's Taiga Kasahara then beating Panama's Humberto Mejía. [2] He came to the US for college. The Kansas City Royals took him in the 20th round of the 2018 amateur draft, one pick before Kyle Tyler, but he did not sign.
Transferring to USD, he went 4-2 with a 6.92 ERA as a junior. The Philadelphia Phillies chose him in the 38th round of the 2019 amateur draft and he signed for a $75,000 bonus, more than all the other players picked in that round combined. The scout was Mike Garcia. [3] He split that summer between the GCL Phillies West (2-1, Sv, 3.50 in 11 G, 22 K:3 BB in 18 IP) and Lakewood BlueClaws (1-1, 0.47 in 5 G, 22 K in 19 IP). He went 1-2 with a 1.93 ERA and 28 K to two walks in 18 2/3 IP for his hometown Perth Heat in the 2019-2020 Australian Baseball League.
After the 2020 minor league season was cancelled due to COVID-19, he spent 2021 with the Jersey Shore BlueClaws (0-1, 2.75 in 6 G), Reading Fightin Phils 94-3, 3.64 in 14 G) and Lehigh Valley IronPigs (0-1, 6.23 in 1 G), reaching AAA right before his 24th birthday. In 2022, he was with Jersey Shore (0-1, 5.14 in 2 G), Reading (0-3, 8.84 in 5 G), the Clearwater Threshers (0 R in 4 IP) and FCL Phillies (0 R in 5 IP) while battling injuries. [4] Returning to health in 2023, he struggled with Reading (2-9, 5.42 in 21 G) and Lehigh Valley (7.20 in 3 G). He tied for 4th in the Eastern League in defeats, leading the Phils chain. He was then sidelined for 2024 due to injuries. [5]
Returning to action in 2025 in the independent ranks, he was 10-5 with a 3.61 ERA and 116 K in 104 2/3 IP for the Kansas City Monarchs and 1-0 with 5 shutout innings for the High Point Rockers. He tied Konnor Ash for 3rd in the American Association in wins and was 7th in strikeouts (between Blair Henley and Thomas Dorminy). In the 2025-2026 ABL, he was 1-1 with a 2.25 ERA for the Adelaide Giants. He won the title game over the Sydney Blue Sox. [6]
The big southpaw then made the Australian national team roster for the 2026 World Baseball Classic. [7]
