José Cubo was 0-2 with a 9.00 ERA for the Spanish national team in the 1988 Baseball World Cup, better than the team ERA of 13.38. He lost to Taiwan's Hung-Chin Tu and to Puerto Rico's Elliot Cianchini. Playing one game at third base, he was 1 for 4, posting the team's best average; Félix Cano was next at .240.
