Biographical Information[edit]

Infielder Jorbit Vivas was signed by the Los Angeles Dodgers as an international amateur free agent on July 4, 2017. He played in their organization from 2018 to 2023, reaching AAA that final season. He posted some impressive batting averages during that period, including .357 for the AZL Dodgers Lasorda in 2019 and .312 between the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes and Great Lakes Loons in 2021. On December 11, 2023, he was traded to the New York Yankees with P Victor Gonzalez in return for SS Trey Sweeney, who was still in the minors at the time.

In his first season in the Yankees system in 2024, Jorbit hit a disappointing .225 in 93 games for the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders of the International League, also making a couple of brief rehabilitation stays at lower levels. He started 2025 back with the RailRiders and was hitting .319 after 26 games when he was called up to New York, the result of starting 2B Jazz Chisholm being placed on the injured list. He made his debut on May 2nd, starting at second base and batting ninth against the Tampa Bay Rays. He went 0 for 1 but with 2 walks and a run in a 3-0 win. In total, he played 29 games for the Yankees, hitting .161 with 1 homer and 5 RBIs. He spent the bulk of the season at Scranton/Wilkes-Barre where he hit .270 with 4 homers and 43 RBIs in 100 games. The acquisition of IF José Caballero by the Yankees at the trading deadline made him redundant, as Caballero could do everything that Vivas could do - only better.

On March 22, 2026, as it was clear that the Yankees had no use for him, he was traded to the Washington Nationals in return for minor league pitcher Sean Paul Liñan. Being out of minor league options, the Yankees were looking at losing Vivas on waivers if they had not traded him.
