Biographical Information[edit]
Joji Imai signed with the Hiroshima Carp in 1978, and he was mainly used as a pinch-runner in his entire career. He only played 9 games in his first 5 seasons, and he scored 10 with 5 steals in 31 games in 1983. That was the only season that he had more than 10 plate appearances in a season. Imai collected 15 steals with 26 runs scored in 52 games in 1984, and he played 42 games with 8 steals and 12 runs in 1985. He had a career-high 17 steals with 13 runs in 46 games in 198/6, and he didn't get a single plate appearance in 1987 while getting 9 steals and 7 runs. Imai collected 11 runs and 7 steals in 46 games in 43 games in 1988, but he only played 4 games in 1989 and he announced his retirement.
