Biographical Information[edit]

Outfielder John Viera played in the New York Yankees system from 1990 to 1993. He peaked briefly at Triple-A in 1993 (6 AB, .500 BA), but never ascended to the majors.

He was originally taken by the Chicago Cubs in the 6th round of the 1985 amateur draft out of high school, between utilityman Shane Turner and pitcher Jeff Musselman, but opted not to sign. He eventually signed a contract as a free agent after college.

He had good speed, stealing 27, 25 and 15 bases his first three years, respectively. Perhaps his best campaign was 1991, when he hit .243/.341/.366 with 9 home runs, 57 RBI and 25 steals in 136 games between the Prince William Cannons and Albany-Colonie Yankees.

Overall, he batted .246/.343/.373 with 22 home runs, 139 RBI and 67 steals in 315 games.
