Biographical Information[edit]

Catcher Jesús Rodríguez was originally signed as an international amateur free agent from Venezuela by the New York Yankees on July 2, 2018. He made his professional debut in 2019 with the DSL Yankees, but was then forced into inaction in 2020 when the COVID-19 pandemic shut down the minor leagues. He was back in action in the Dominican Summer League in 2021, playing for both Yankees affiliates in the circuit that year, and made it to the U.S. with the FCL Yankees in 2022, where he hit .348 in 37 games.

He had split his time between catcher and first base during his first three years, but in 2023, he began to be used often at third base as well as he played for both the Tampa Tarpons of the Florida State League and the Hudson Valley Renegades of the South Atlantic League, hitting .310/.399/.450 in 109 games. His scorching bat continued to be on display in winter ball after the season, as he batted .362 in 19 games against much older competition for the Tigres de Aragua in the Venezuelan League. He finished over .300 again in 2024, when he appeared for both Hudson Valley and the Somerset Patriots of the Eastern League, for a total of 80 games. His slash line was .302/.375/.481, with 10 homers and 47 RBIs.

He started 2025 at Somerset but was promoted to the AAA Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders after just 7 games. On July 31st, he was one of four minor leaguers the Yankees sent to the San Francisco Giants to acquire reliever Camilo Doval, and he finished the year in the Pacific Coast League with the Sacramento River Cats. In total that season, he appeared in 124 games and batted .307 with 7 homers and 59 RBIs. His hot bat meant that he played all over the field, even if catcher was listed as his main position, as he simply needed to be in the line-up as much as possible. After 24 games at Sacramento in 2026, he was batting .330 with 2 homers and 14 hits, and the Giants needed to see what he could do in the Show, even if they had an excellent starting catcher (at least defensively) in Patrick Bailey. He made his debut on May 4th, starting behind the dish against the San Diego Padres, going 0 for 3, before Bailey, who was batting just .157 at that point, replaced him for the final two innings with San Francisco trying to preserve a short lead.
