Biographical Information[edit]

Jesús Querales has pitched in the minors and for the Venezuelan national team.

He was signed by Philadelphia Phillies scouts Álvaro Blanco and Carlos Salas in July 2019. [1] He did not pitch that summer then the 2020 season was wiped out due to COVID-19. With the 2021 DSL Phillies Red, he was 2-2 with 8 saves, a 1.38 ERA and 31 K to 5 BB. He tied Jose Geraldo for 3rd in the Dominican Summer League in saves; despite being in a short-season league, he tied Blake Brown for second in the Phils chain, behind Brian Marconi. In '22, he went 2-0 with 7 saves and a 1.64 ERA in a repeat engagement, striking out 28 in 22 IP. He tied Nick Duron and Jason Ruffcorn for 4th in saves among Philadelphia farmhands. In the DSL, he tied for 5th.

Coming stateside, he was 0-1 with a 5.25 ERA for the 2023 FCL Phillies to end his time in their system. He made two strong starts for Venezuela when they won Bronze in the 2025 Bolivarian Games. He allowed two hits and one walk in 5 1/3 IP against Ecuador, striking out 8, but Gabriel Gilbert matched him goose egg for goose egg; Eduardo Figueroa took over and would get the win. In the semifinal versus host Peru, he allowed one run (a Rider Zevallos homer) on 3 hits and one walk in 5 innings, whiffing 9. He again got little support as Ángel Gonzales and Marco Castellano blanked Venezuela over this period. Figueroa again took over; Venezuela would tie it only to lose in a major upset. He had a 0.68 ERA for the Games. He led the tourney in innings (one ahead of Castellano) and strikeouts (4 ahead of former major leaguer Luis Escobar) and had the best ERA of anyone who allowed an earned run. Ken Ishihara beat him out as the All-Star pitcher. [2]
