Biographical Information[edit]

James Tobin was a pitcher based in Albany, NY in the 1880s and 1890s.

In 1887 he was with the Ridgefield club, where he formed a battery with catcher Bunty Holmes[1]. Both players remained with the Ridgefields through 1889, filling in for one game together with the Albany Governors of the International Association in 1888[2]. In 1890 the pair joined the Albany Senators in the New York State League. Tobin won 10 games for the club as a pitcher, 5 league games and 5 exhibition games, before he was released in early July. He remained involved in baseball in Albany in the coming years, often as an umpire[3], including in the New York State League.
