Biographical Information[edit]

Jae Seo made 102 starts in his six-year major league career, pitching mostly for the New York Mets and Tampa Bay Devil Rays. He began his career by not allowing a walk over his first 24 IP, the longest such streak to begin a modern era career. Seo's 3.3 WAR in 2003 was the best by a Met rookie pitcher over the 38 seasons from 1985 to 2022. His 3.1 WAR in 2005 set a Met franchise record for starting pitchers in seasons of fewer than 100 IP, a mark that would stand until Jacob deGrom posted 4.5 WAR in 2021.

Seo signed with his hometown KIA Tigers for 2008, inking a $1.6 million deal. He was only 5-5 with a 4.05 ERA in the 2008 KBO season. He fell to 5-4, 6.13 in 2009, clearly the worst member of the rotation on the league's regular-season pennant winners.

His older brother, Jae Hwan Seo, signed with the New York Mets at the same time he did and spent a year in their minor league system.
