Biographical Information[edit]

Jacob Caples began playing collegiately at Western Texas College where he helped the Westerners to the first National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) tournament appearance in school history. He then transferred to West Texas A&M University for his final two seasons. Caples graduated in 2015 with a degree in Sport and Exercise Science. He went on to earn a master's degree in Physical Education and Coaching from the University of Arkansas-Monticello (UAM) in 2016.

Caples began his coaching career while working on his master's degree at Arkansas-Monticello. He was a Boll Weevils assistant coach from 2016-2018 where he worked with the offense and catchers. In 2016, Caples coached Corey Wood who won the Josh Willingham Award which is given to the NCAA Division II's most valuable player. In 2018, he helped lead one of the country's best Division II offenses which ranked 8th nationally in home runs & slugging percentage and 16th nationally in batting average.[1] Caples moved to the Tarleton State University Texans in the fall of 2018, but only stayed a short while.

The University of Arkansas at Little Rock Trojans hired Caples in 2019 as an assistant coach. After the season, Caples was an assistant coach for the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox in the Cape Cod Baseball League. During that summer, he worked with two catchers who would be drafted in the 2020 Amateur Draft - Austin Wells (1st round, Yankees) and Carson Taylor (4th round, Dodgers). Caples remained with Little Rock through the 2021 season. Caples next stop on the college coaching circuit led him to Southern Arkansas University. Muleriders hitters were very productive in 2022 and helped the team reach the NCAA Division II Baseball Championship tournament. Caples continued to coach the Muleriders through 2024.

The Toronto Blue Jays hired Caples for their hitting coach position with the FCL Blue Jays in 2025-2026.
