Biographical Information

Isao Sugimachi signed with the Nishitetsu Lions in 1960, and he had a 4.85 ERA in 6 games in his first season. He was turned into an outfielder in the middle of the 1961 season, and he led the Western League in RBI in 1962. However, Sugimachi went 2-for-23 with the big club, and he returned to the mound. He was 0-2 with a 3.15 ERA in 1963, and his ERA was 4.30 in 25 appearances in 1964. He didn't reach the big club in 1965, and he announced his retirement.
