Biographical Information

Isao Shimatani signed with the Kokutetsu Swallows in 1957, and he only pitched 3 games with a 3.00 ERA in 1958. He had a 5.63 ERA in 11 games in 1959, and he improved to a 1.41 ERA in 21 relief outings in 1960. However, Shimatani only got 6 more appearances for the big club, and he announced his retirement in 1963. He had solid career numbers (0-2, 2.61 in 42 G, going 2 for 8 with a homer).
