Biographical Information[edit]

Isao Mimura played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 10 years

Mimura signed with the Chubu Nihon club in 1946, and he played 81 games with a .255/.324/.345 batting line in his first season. He recorded a .191/.252/.270 batting line in 117 games in 1947, and he jumped to the Kyuei Flyers with his teammates Jiro Kanayama and Makoto Kozuru. Mimura hit .195/.267/.254 in 1948, and he crushed 13 homers with a .297/.370/.471 batting line in 1949. He was 5th in doubles in the Japanese Professional Baseball League with 32, 4 behind Tetsuharu Kawakami. When the JPBL split into two leagues in 1950, Mimura joined the Shochiku Robins and hit .265/.366/.406 with 16 homers. He led the Central League with 79 strikeouts, and he was 8th in runs (tied with Kawakami) and 6th in walks (tied with Katsumi Shiraishi, Masayasu Kaneda and Shoji Arakawa). Mimura was 4-for-27 in the 1950 Nippon Series, and he collected the first sayonara hit in the Nippon Series against Atsushi Aramaki in Game 3. The Robins lost to the Mainichi Orions in 6 games.

The Fukuoka native extended his solid performance in 1951, and he blasted 13 homers with a .229/.330/.378 batting line. He led the league in strikeouts again, and he was 7th in walks (between Kiyoshi Sugiura and Arakawa) and 10th in homers (tied with Hiroyuki Watanabe, Tsuguo Goto and Tamaichi Yasui). Mimura slumped to .217/.282/.310 in 1952, and he jumped to the Hiroshima Carp with Kanayama and Kozuru. He recorded a .256/.339/.430 batting line with 11 homers in 1953, and he struggled in 1954 as his batting line fell to .155/.273/.217. Mimura was 8-for-43 in 1955, and he announced his retirement.

Overall, Mimura hit .237/.318/.357 with 712 hits and 61 homers in 10 seasons in NPB.
