Biographical Information[edit]

Isao Kyuki signed with the Nishi-Nippon Pirates in 1950, and he was 4-6 with a 4.80 ERA in his first season; he hit .189/.204/.264 in 28 games at the plate. The Pirates then merged with the Nishitetsu Clippers, and he was 2-for-9 in 1951. He had a .282/.309/.321 batting line in 1952, then he slumped to .185/.194/.196 in 1953. Kyuki then jumped to the Takahashi Unions, but his batting line was .121/.171/.121 in 1954 and he announced his retirement. He also pitched 15 games with a 3.95 ERA in his last season. Kyuki then became an umpire for the Pacific League from 1955 to 1981, and he worked 2,774 games in his umpire career. He also worked 5 All-Star Games (1964, 1966, 1971, 1974, 1978) and 6 Nippon Series (1966, 1967, 1968, 1969, 1971, 1975).
