Biographical Information[edit]
Ichiro Tanaka played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 9 years.
Tanaka signed with the Nankai Hawks in 1949 as a pitcher, but he stayed in the minors in his first three seasons. He was then turned into an outfielder, and he went 0-for-6 in 1952. Tanaka played 33 games with a .138/.242/.172 batting line in 1953, and he hit .208/.236/.321 in 45 games in 1954. He struggled again in 1955 as his batting line was .182/.182/.182, and he batted .178/.288/.222 in 1956. Tanaka became Nankai's main 4th outfielder in 1957, and he played a career-high 82 games with a .217/.287/.294 batting line. He then hit .212/.268/.375 in 1958, and his batting line fell to .155/.231/.197 in 1959. Tanaka went 9-for-59 in 1960 and he announced his retirement.
Overall, Tanaka hit .188/.259/.269 with 102 hits and 7 homers in 9 seasons in NPB.
