Biographical Information[edit]

Ichiro Nishie played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 9 years.

Nishie signed with the Osaka Tigers in 1948, and he hit .189/.268/.216 in 31 games in his first season. He then played 72 games with a .290/.359/.377 batting line in 1949, and he collected 15 steals with a .250/.288/.330 batting line as the starting shortstop of the Tigers in 1950. Nishie also set the Central League record for most errors as a shortstop in a season with 71. Thus, he lost his spot after Choei Shirasaka shined in 1951, and he hit .228/.283/.279 in 85 games that season. Nishie slumped to .179/.253/.274 in 1952, and he struggled again in 1953 as he went 4-for-36. He was 12-for-41 in 1954, and the Tigers released him. The Toei Flyers picked him up, and Nishie hit .280/.324/.355 in 129 games in 1955. He tied Kihachi Enomoto for 10th in doubles in the Pacific League. Nishie had a .155/.212/.191 batting line in 1956, and he announced his retirement.

Overall, Nishie hit .240/.291/.311 with 417 hits and 6 homers in 9 seasons in NPB.
