Biographical Information

Hyutaro Akaneya signed with the Tokyu Flyers in 1948, and he was 2-3 with a 2.67 ERA in his first season. His ERA rose to 7.00 in 10 games in 1949, and he announced his retirement. He later coached Akita Commercial High School. Akaneya was the only Japanese player in NPB history whose name is longer than 7 characters.
