Biographical Information[edit]
Hiroshige Saruwatari was drafted by the Toei Flyers in the 5th round of the 1969 NPB draft, and he only got 6 at-bats combined in his first two seasons. He played 26 games in 1972, and he hit .233/.258/.233 in 1973. Saruwatari went 14-for-49 in 1974, and he had a .264/.302/.330 batting line in 56 games in 1975. He only got 4 at-bats in 1976, and he was 4-for-19 in 1977 and he announced his retirement. Saruwatari then coached in the Flyers/Nippon Ham Fighters system from 1979 to 1984, and he was the fielding coach for the Yakult Swallows from 1985 to 1986. He returned to the Fighters system from 1987 to [[2001 NPB|2001], and he coached Yakult's minor team from 2002 to 2007 and managed them from 208 to 2010.
