Biographical Information[edit]

Third baseman Hiroshi Saito played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 6 years.

Saito signed with the Tokyu Flyers in 1950, and he collected 20 steals with a .287/.300/.396 batting line in his first season. He tied Yutaka Tagawa, Takuji Kochi and Masaharu Takita for 4th in doubles in the Pacific League with 25. Saito slumped to .245/.282/.324 in 1951, and he soon bounced back with a solid .301/.328/.395 batting line in 1952. He was 7th in batting, between Hiroshi Oshita and Katsuki Tokura. However, his batting line fell to .210/.245/.254 in 1953, and he struggled again in 1954 as he played 102 games with a .186/.225/.229 batting line. Saito went 2-for-17 in 1955, and he announced his retirement.

Overall, Saito hit .249/.278/.326 with 458 hits and 17 homers in 6 seasons in NPB.
