Biographical Information[edit]
Hiroshi Okubo was drafted by the Taiyo Whales in the 4th round of the 1977 NPB draft, and he stayed in the NPB Farm Leagues in his first two seasons. He was 3-for-19 in 1980, and he played 65 games with a .263/.331/.316 batting line in 1981 while backing up Mitsuo Motoi at second base. Despite his part-time role, he was 5th in the Central League with 7 times hit-by-pitch. Okubo went 9-for-41 in 59 games in 1982 yet tied Kim Allen and Ryuzo Yamasaki for 4th in HBP (6), and he was 7-for-4 in 1983. He didn't reach the big club in 1984, then he had a .226/.300/.340 batting line in 55 games in 1985. He only got 9 at-bats in 1986, and he didn't reach the top team in 1987 and he announced his retirement.
Overall, Okubo hit .226/.306/.289 with 61 hits in 6 seasons in NPB. He was plunked 17 times in 321 PA.
