Biographical Information[edit]
Hiroshi Masumoto was drafted by the Taiyo Whales in the 4th round of the 1978 NPB draft, and he only pitched one game in his first season. He was 4-3 with a 3.39 ERA in 1980, then he pitched 11 games with a 4.50 ERA in 1982. Masumoto's ERA rose to 5.11 in 24 relief outings in 1983, then he recorded a 3.35 ERA in 34 relief outings in 1984. However, he allowed 6 runs in 2 2/3 innings in 1985, and he only pitched 3 games in 1986. Masumoto led the Eastern League in ERA in 1987, and he completed the second perfect game of the league on May 30. He only got 9 appearances for the top team, and he announced his retirement.
Overall, Masumoto went 4-3 with a 4.17 ERA, struck out 94 and pitched 162 innings in 8 seasons in NPB.
