Biographical Information[edit]
Hiroshi Kawabata signed with the Yomiuri Giants in 1942, and he was 0-5 with a 4.00 ERA in his first season. He was the youngest Giants pitcher to start a game and complete a game. Kawabata went 6-3 with a 2.53 ERA in 1943, and he was turned into a catcher. He had a .202/.268/.292 batting line at the plate that season, and he hit .234/.286/.339 as Yomiuri's starting catcher in 1944. Kawabata then enlisted into the military, and he left the team. He played for JR Shikoku in the industrial league after War, and he returned to pro ball in 1949 with the Daiei Stars, but he was 1-for-5 and he announced his retirement.
