Biographical Information[edit]

Hiroaki Ueda was drafted by the Seibu Lions in the 2nd round of the 1987 NPB draft, and he mainly stayed in the NPB Farm Leagues in his first six seasons; he only got 4 at-bats for the big club. Ueda was 5-for-25 in 54 games in 1994, and he had a 1-for-10 record in 73 games in 1995. He played 58 games with a 0-for-9 record in 1996, and he missed most of the 1997 season. Ueda was still mainly used as an infield defensive replacement in 1998, and he got 2 hits with 10 runs scored in 72 games. He went 3-for-11 in 87 games in 1999, and he was 2-for-15 in 77 games in 2000. Ueda hit .237/.284/.289 among 89 plate appearances in 96 games in 2001, then he got 79 plate appearances with a .197/.250/.212 batting line in 2002. He then slumped to .132/.175/.132 in 2003, and he was 2-for-20 in 2004. Ueda only got 2 at-bats in 34 games in 2005, and he announced his retirement. He was the fielding coach for the Lions in 2006.

Overall, Ueda hit .179/.242/.200 with 51 hits in 15 seasons in NPB; he had only 340 plate appearances in his 796 games. In addition to his defensive subbing, he pinch-ran with enough regularity that he had more runs (84) than hits. He stole 23 bases in 33 tries.
