Biographical Information

Hikaru Kawase has played in Nippon Pro Baseball. His brother Kento Kawase pitched in NPB.

Kawase was drafted by the Softbank Hawks in the 6th round of the 2015 NPB draft, and he spent his first two seasons in the NPB Farm Leagues. He was 6-for-32 in 2018, and he went 6-for-34 in 2019. Kawase hit .191/.253/.248 in 70 games in 2020, and he appeared in every games of the 2020 Nippon Series as the backup shortstop behind Taisei Makihara, with a single against Kan Otake in Game 2; the Hawks swept the Yomiuri Giants. Kawase went 5-for-27 in 2021, and he hit .278/.327/.333 in 73 games in 2022. He was 4-for-7 in the 2022 PLCS, but the Hawks lost to the Orix Buffaloes in 4 games in the final stage. He played 102 games with a .236/.279/.309 batting line as the main infield utility man of the Hawks in 2023, and he improved to .261/.295/.304 in 2024.
