Biographical Information

Hideshi Murai played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 10 years.

Murai was drafted by the Nippon Ham Fighters in the 4th round of the 1973 NPB draft, and he hit .213/.279/.339 in 69 games in his first season. He recorded a .209/.244/.349 batting line in 1975, and he went 12-for-46 in 1976. Murai had a 10-for-54 record in 1977, and he hit .262/.364/.534 with a career-high 9 homers as the backup right fielder in 1978. He hit .225/.289/.315 in 1979, and he played 38 games with a .257/.364/.419 batting line in 1980. Murai improved to .305/.388/.397 in 74 games in 1981, and he went 2-for-4 in the 1981 Nippon Series; the Fighters lost to the Yomiuri Giants in 6 games. Murai slumped to .233/.342/.301 in 1982, and he announced his retirement after he went 5-for-27 in 1983. He was the fielding coach for the Fighters from 1987 to 1991 and from 1993 to 1994, and he also coached their minors team from 1984 to 1986 and in 1992.

Overall, Murai hit .240/.318/.378 with 215 hits and 29 homers in 10 seasons in NPB.
