Biographical Information[edit]

Submariner Hayate Nakagawa has pitched in Nippon Pro Baseball.

Nakagawa was named the Most Valuable Pitcher in the 2017 All-Japan University Baseball Championship Series as he completed 12 shutout innings in that event, and he went 10-8 with a 3.42 ERA in his college career. He represented Japan in the 2018 World University Baseball Championship, pitching 2 1/3 shutout innings for the champs. He was drafted by the Orix Buffaloes in the 4th round of the 2020 NPB draft; the scout was Daisuke Hayakawa. He went 2-2 with a 1.13 ERA in 41 appearances in the 2021 season in the NPB Farm Leagues, and he also pitched a shutout inning for the big club. However, Nakagawa suffered from a shoulder injury, and he never returned to the top team before the Buffaloes released him in 2023. He then signed with the Yokohama BayStars, and he went 3-0 with 5 holds and a 4.42 ERA in 29 games in 2024. He struck out 3 in 3 innings in the 2024 Nippon Series, and the BayStars beat the Softbank Hawks in 6 games.

Nakagawa's repertoire features a fastball that peaks at 85.1 mph and a slider.
