Biographical Information[edit]

Haruhiko Suzuki played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 11 years.

Suzuki was drafted by the Taiheiyo Club Lions in the 3rd round of the 1973 NPB draft, but he only got 33 at-bats combined in his first two seasons. He hit .311/.352/.372 in 99 games in 1976, but he then slumped to .167/.227/.261 in 1977 and Bob Hansen took his spot. Suzuki only played 18 games in 1978, and he bounced back with a .278/.302/.361 batting line in 1979. He batted .257/.315/.375 in 1980, and he had a .222/.286/.324 batting line in 1981. Suzuki was 7-for-21 in 1982, and he hit .255/.350/.353 in 1983. He was 1-for-4 in the 1983 Nippon Series, and the Lions beat the Yomiuri Giants in 7 games. Suzuki had a 3-for-28 record in 1984, and he announced his retirement. He was the batting coach for the minor leagues team of the Seibu Lions in 1987 and from 1990 to 1992, and he coached their top team from 1988 to 1989 and in 2020. Suzuki also managed their minors team from 1998 to 1999 and from 2001 to 2003, and he scouted for them. Japan University of Economics named him an assistant coach in 2019.

Overall, Suzuki hit .252/.303/.329 with 246 hits and 11 homers in 11 seasons in NPB.
