Biographical Information[edit]
Hajime Kugitani was drafted by the Yakult Swallows in the 2nd round of the 1973 NPB draft, and he primarily stayed in the NPB Farm Leagues in his first five seasons; he only got 6 at-bats combined for the big club. He was 6-for-27 in 1979, and he had a 4-for-11 record in 1980. Kuhitani played 57 games with a .313/.375/.438 batting line in 72 plate appearances as a backup outfielder and pinch-hitter in 1981, then he went 4-for-17 in 1982. He recorded a solid .304/.331/.478 batting line with 5 homers in 131 PA in 1983, and his batting line was .250/.333/.273 in 51 plate appearances over 63 games in 1984. Kugitani didn't reach the top team in 1985, and he announced his retirement. In 320 career PA, he had batted a solid .289/.335/.412 but been unable to crack the starting lineup.
