Biographical Information[edit]
Héctor Mayora pitched in the minors and for the Venezuelan national team.
He was signed by Chicago Cubs scout Héctor Ortega in February 2008. [1] He split the summer between the DSL Cubs 1 and DSL Cubs 2, going 4-2 with a 1.52 ERA and 60 K in 53 1/3 IP. Even had he qualified, he wouldn't have made the Dominican Summer League top 10 in ERA. He had a 3-2, 2.06 record with a save for the 2009 DSL Cubs 1. After two strong years in the Dominican, he came stateside and was 1-1 with a save and a 4.32 ERA for the 2010 AZL Cubs. He spent 2011 with the AZL Cubs (3 UER in 2 2/3 IP) and the Boise Hawks (1-3, 5.29 in 11 G).
His time in the Cubs chain over, he had a 4.32 ERA for his hometown Tiburones de La Guaira in 2011-2012 and had a 9.82 ERA there in four games in 2012-2013. He next surfaced with them in 2015-2016 with a 5.14 ERA. He allowed one run in 1 2/3 IP for them in 2016-2017 and was 2-0 with a 6.35 ERA in 2017-2018. Making Venezuela's team for the 2018 Central American and Caribbean Games, he was roughed up for 4 runs in 1 1/3 IP, losing to Adalberto Flores of Puerto Rico after relieving Wil Ledezma. He tied David Reyes, Nathanael Santiago, Leyson Séptimo and Abdiel Velasquez for the event's highest ERA. [2] Mayora was 0-1 with a 5.63 ERA for the 2020-2021 Tiburones and gave up 5 runs (4 earned) in 5 innings in 2021-2022.
