Biographical Information[edit]
Gianmarco Vega has been on the Peruvian national team.
An American of Peruvian descent, he was the youngest player on Peru's squad at the 2025 Bolivarian Games and apparently the only US-born member of the team. [1] He played regularly in right field, debuting in the opener against Colombia as a replacement for Daniel Ramírez. He struck out against former major leaguer Luis Escobar his only time up that day. He got his first hit off El Salvador's Nelson Alfaro. He finished 2-for-11 with a walk, run and two RBI and had 5 putouts, one assist and no errors in right. He then got the starting assignment in the title game against Colombia, Peru having already locked up its best finish ever (its only prior medal was a Bronze back in 1947!) Facing a lineup with a former major leaguer and others with lots of pro experience, he went 2 1/3 IP and allowed one hit, four walks and two runs (one earned) before giving way to Bruno Medina with his team surprisingly up 4-2. They fell, 6-5, but it was a notable moment for Peruvian baseball. [2]
