Biographical Information[edit]
Gaspar Del Monte pitched in the minor leagues from 1945 to 1956, spending six seasons in the Florida International League. Perhaps his best season was 1949 with the Miami Beach Flamingos, as he went 14-10 with 12 complete games and a 2.53 ERA in 44 games. He won 10-plus games four other times. Records indicate he won at least 71 games—and lost at least 84—in his career.
In 1955, he was a manager, serving as the initial skipper of the Cocoa Indians, going 12-8 before being replaced by Doug Williams (63-56). Later that year, he served as the final of three skippers for the St. Petersburg Saints, going 23-23 after replacing Hooks Iott (11-30). In 1955-56, he led the Indios de Cartagena to a Liga Colombiana de Béisbol Profesional championship.
